HIP HOP & BREAK DANCE
Bored, need something to do over the summer holidays?  Want to learn some new dance moves?  This is the program for you!  In this program we offer an opportunity to take a variety of workshops with different professional dance instructors in the industry.  Classes include many styles of hip-hop; like popping, locking, whacking, break, music video hip-hop and more!  These workshops are for a variety of learning styles and all teenagers are welcomed.  Comfortable clothes and indoor shoes should be worn.  You can register by calling 604-524-3516.  You must register by July 5, 2010

Imagine being face-to-face with the dancers and choreographers from the popular TV series So You Think You Can Dance. Now, imagine how awesome it would be to take one of their classes… Well here’s your chance!

Coastal Dance Rage is coming back to Vancouver this October with its two-day convention at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver!!  This year’s high-profile faculty includes Tabitha & Napoleon, Blake McGrath, Benji Schwimmer, Twitch & more!!

Two jam-packed days of dance with the top names in the industry - what a blast!!  And if that weren’t enough, CDR awards prizes at the end of each class to selected students, as well as scholarships to future CDR events!!

Still not convinced?  Just ask our very own Linda Pimentel who last year won the improv. Dance-off and a CDR scholarship at the end of the convention!!

“Elktrik” from Dancin’ Stars, choreographed by Yoshi Hisanaga, will be participating in the World Hip Hop Championships Preliminary Round held at MJ Fox Theatre Friday May 21, 2010.

We will be selling tickets at the studio starting this Friday May 14, 2010. Ticket prices are still TBA, but most likely between $25 and $35. There are different prices (children, students and Adults).

COSTUME INVOICES

This year we are doing costume invoicing a little bit differently. If you have trouble understanding them, or have an inquiry, please send an email to dancinstars@shaw.ca ATTN: Ali, and she will look at it and respond ASAP. We are doing our best to try new things, and work out what is best for our students, parents and teachers in respect to how our competitive costumes look, and cost. Please remember, we do not decide on the shipping charges of the costumes - we pay what they tell us to pay.For our recreational costumes, we are doing our very best to stay within the $50 deposit you’ve paid. If you have not paid your deposit, or your child’s group costume exceeds the $50, please expect a costume invoice within the next month. All costumes will be handed out in class within the next couple of weeks.

HIGH NOTE RECITAL

High Note Voice teacher Emily Bolhuis will be performing Sunday May 16, 3pm at the Dancin’ Stars Studio in efforts to fundraise for the Competitive students of Dancin’ Stars! At the recital you can expect: Some of Emily Bolhuis’ students to open the recital with a few performances, the amazing Richard Epp (vocal pianist for UBC Music) accompanying Emily, as well as 5 operatic selections by Emily Bolhuis. Not sure if you like opera? Now it’s your chance to find out! Don’t understand a word? Translations and brief descriptions will be available prior to the show (keep your eyes peeled around the studio!) Keep in mind this is a fundraiser (for you!), so Adult admission is $15.00 and admission for Youth & Seniors is $7.50. Refreshments will be available DURING AND AFTER the show, as opera doesn’t necessarily mean shut up and sit down! See you there J
