DANCE WEAR REMINDER

Please do not wear jeans to ANY of your classes. Please keep your hair out of your face with either a ponytail or bun. Also, clean footwear is a MUST when in any of our studios. No dresses or skirts allowed in any classes.

MUSIC

For those of you who want to practice your competition or recital pieces at home, ask your instructor about bringing a blank CD or USB to class so they can burn you a copy! J

COSTUMES

This year we are doing several things for our costumes. Costume manager is a website where parents can sign in (information provide), view the items needed for each dance and select and purchase these items via credit card! The costume or accessory will be sent directly to DNS. Stay alert for order due dates to ensure arrival for photos and the year-end show.

Costumes purchased through the Star Style Store or other stores that exceed the costume deposit amount, will be invoiced (date TBA) with payment received within 7 days of invoicing.

Sizing will be done through the studio and alterations can be taken home for completion by a family member/seamstress or through the DNS seamstress. (Pricing TBA)

q. You have parties on your website. How is this party different and can I have the additional things like mask making with his package?
Yes – We do offer different party packages on our website. They are the parties that the studio hosts year round. For us to work with Swarmjam and offer the incredible pricing of $89.00 we had to make changes to our standard packages.
q. How is this party package different?
The package is different by: additional 30 minutes use of the decorated party room. You can have 30 minutes prior to the dance class for your refreshments and the last 30 minutes for cake and presents. We then made the package for 10 children where our packages start at 8 children. You can still customize this package by purchasing your choice of: mask making, karaoke or face painting. When you purchase the mask making, karaoke or face painting you will also have an additional 30 minutes of party time. You party will be 2 hours and 30 minutes instead of 2 hours.
q. My daughter wants to invite one more child to the party. Is there an additional charge?
Yes – There is an additional fee of $50.00 for one to five more children.
q. Why is it so expensive to add one more child? I don’t want to have five more?
We have a fixed fee for an additional one to five more children as the instructor is provided with a host to assist them. Also with the additional one to five more children you will need to provide one more adult to assist you with your refreshments.
q. My daughter wants to invite seven more children to the party. Is there an additional charge?
Yes – There is an additional fee of $100.00 for six to ten more children to participate**
For each additional 1 – 5 more participants we provide the instructor/host with another host. An additional Parent/Guardian of the Party Host Boy/Girl is required to serve and distribute all refreshments at the ratio of 1 Parent/Guardian for each 5 children. (Example for 20 children 6 Parent/Guardians are required to attend service and distribute all refreshments.)
q. Your ad says that the decorations will be in yellow/gold and black. My child’s favorite colors are purple, pink and yellow. Can we have those colors for decorations?
Yes – We charge an additional $20.00 to change our decorations of: plastic table clothes, paper streamers and balloons that hang from the ceiling.
q. $20.00 seems expensive. I can purchase everything at the dollar store much cheaper. Can I do that and have you put them up?
Yes, you can also purchase the decorations you prefer. However, for us to put them up we will charge you $20.00. You can put any decorations up you would like. However, you will have to put them up within the 60 minutes allowed for your refreshment time to alleviate any additional charges for the extra time used over and above the 2 hour maximum booked for your event.
q. I have looked at your website and see that you have other party activities available. What would be the charges for the additional activities you offer?
Yes, we do have more activates available. We have selected several of our most popular activities with preferred pricing to compliment the Swarmjam promotion.
q. Do you think boys as young as 6 would like a dance party?
Yes – we have our regular dance classes where boys as young as 5 years old are taking hip hop classes.
q. What days do you have your birthday parties on?
We are a fully operational dance & music studio offering classes 6 days a week from Sunday to Friday. At this time we have set aside Saturdays from 12 noon to 8pm and Sundays 1pm – 3:30pm to accommodate the parties. We will do our best to work with you regarding your requests for days and times of your parties. There are also days and times during the week including Monday to Friday from 11are to 3:30pm that might be a consideration for your party.
q. Do you have blackout dates where we cannot book any parties?
No we do not have any blackout dates. But the dates and times are subject to availability.
q. It says that there will be additional charges for more adults other than the 2 required for a party of ten children. What would the extra charges before?

Yes we do charge an additional fee for adults that want to be part of the party. The additional fee is to have the party moved to a larger room to accommodate the adults. We will provide: table & chairs for each adult based on the additional fee paid. The additional fee is $10.00 per person that is pre registered. A fee of $15.00 will be charged for any unregistered guests that stay for the party.

q. Why can’t the adults just hang around?

Yes, any adults that want to sit in our lobby while the party is in progress are permitted to do so. However, your party may not be the only event going on at the time. We are a fully operational dance and music studio, so there could be other classes, rehearsals or rentals going on at the same time. We cannot guarantee that seating will be available for your guests. Several adults may want to video the event, however, we do not encourage and allow too many adults to stay in the dance studio while the instructor is teaching and working with your children. From our experience, adults do distract the children and can make it difficult for the instructor to keep their attention and their participation when other people are interrupting their concentration.
q. I would like to extend my party for an additional 30 minutes. What would the charge be?

The additional charge to extend your party will depend on how many people you have attending your party.

additional 60 minutes with instructor for 16-20 children $150

q. Do you have a limit of how many children and adults can come to the Swarmjam party deal?
Yes – for any parties in excess of 60 additional guest s and children your SWARMJAM coupon will not be accepted
q. How do I book a party?
To book a party you need to purchase a coupon from Swarmjam. The coupon will have your confirmation number. We will require the HST & 15% gratuity for a total of $25.53 ($10.68 & $14.95) to be paid at the time your party is booked and confirmed. The $25.53 is nonrefundable.

-specific party room is supplied for the refreshments and present opening. Space is limited in the party specific room for refreshments+. Two Parent/Guardians of the Party Host Boy/Girl is required to serve and distribute all refreshments. Plastic bags will be available for any discarded disposable utensils, cups, plates etc. and is the responsibility of the party’s parents or guardians to pick up and clean up any and all foods and deposit them in the plastic bags provided.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARENTS/GUARDIANS OR OUTSIDE HELPERS NOT EMPLOYED BY DANCIN’STARS ALLOWED ASSISTING IN THE PARTY IS 1 PARENT PER 5 CHILDREN UP TO A MAXIUM OF 4 ADULTS TO ASSIST WITH A PARTY FOR 10 CHILDREN. ANY ADDITIONAL PERSON OR PERSONS PARTICIPATING IN THE PARTY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO VIEWING, DANCING AND EATING WITH THE BIRTHDAY PARTY GROUP AND WITHIN THE TIMES RESERVED FOR THE SPECIFIC PARTY WILL BE CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL FEE OF $10.00 PER PERSON*****. Our studio is sensitive to the needs and allergies of some people. Peanuts can be a deadly for some people, so we do not allow peanut products to be brought into the studio.

-the choreography provided is for “entertainment” purposes only. It is not to be used in part or as a whole for competitions or other performances. The choreography is the property of the instructor and Dancin’Stars and not authorized to be duplicated or performed in any venues.
-Package does not include taxes or gratuity. Taxes will be due and payable upon confirmation from Dancin’Stars of the mutually agreed date and time of your event. Taxes will be based on the cost of the basic package or on the total amount of the package booked and confirmed. We offer Guitar lessons here at Dancin’ Stars and we are eager to have you as a guitar student on Tuesdays from 5-9pm or Thursdays from 5-9pm with Harold Donnelly.
Harold Donnelly is an active member of the Vancouver music scene playing with various groups and teaching. He holds a Diploma in Contemporary Jazz guitar from Vancouver Community College, and is currently working towards a Music Education Degree from Capilano University. Over the years he has recorded many albums with various Vancouver based musicians. One current project is with local guitarist John Sponarski. The two front a group called ‘
Portage and Main’, which released their debut full length in March, and embarked on their first Western Canadian Tour last June.

Our recycling bin is no longer located near the office; we now have a recycling bin right at the top of the stairs in the lobby! So feel free to help the environment by throwing your recyclables in the bins and your garbage in the garbage cans located all around the studio!

2012 RECITAL PRODUCTION
This year’s production theme is “Wicked”. Lions and Tigers and Bears OH MY! All ages and Levels are welcome!! For more information, feel free to pop by the office!
HIGH NOTE CLASSES
There are still private lesson spaces available in Guitar on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-9pm with Harold Donnelly. We have our voice teacher Emily Bolhius available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Lauren Ollsin is also another Voice and Piano who teaches on Saturday Mornings. Kevin Lee is a Voice and Piano teacher as well on Saturdays. Dancin’Stars new dance season starts:

Monday September 12, 2012

1 hour per week class - *$54.00+ per month including taxes!

2 hours per week classes *15% off per class per month - your monthly fee for 2 classes *$99.87+# incl taxes

Take 4 or 5 hours of dance classes per week for *$207.20+ per month including taxes!

Still want more dance - each additional 1 hour class over 5 hours of class instruction will be at the rate of *$54.00+ per month including taxes.

Our Dance Season is from September 2011 - June 2012.

+The rate shown is based on starting our dance year program in September 2011.

Registration fee for new students $25.00 / returning students $20.00

Costume deposit for performance classes is $60.00 per dancer per class. This is payable with a postdated cheque dated March 1, 2012 or payable on March 1, 2012.

Costume deposit for competition classes, solo’s, duo’s, trio’s or closed small groups to be discussed with the office.

Teachers Bio’s

Here is a snap shot of our Instructor’s

Yoshi –
popping, old school hip-hop, bboying, locking, street jazz. Yoshi “walks the
talk” by still competing, dancing! Yoshi is part of the renowned group “Over
the Influence (OTI)” Where can you go to find someone in the hip-hop world that
hasn’t heard of Yoshi “nowhere”!

Mr. Trevor – modern
and pre-school’s, Mr. Trevor is renowned for his teaching techniques and
concepts of creative dance for early childhood development.  Mr. Trevor “walks the talk” as a performer on
stage and video’s!

Stewart – Stuey Teller –
hip-hop, locking, waving, popping, street jazz, house, tutting, krumping.  “Walks the talk” still competing and
performing! Stuey works with several dance crews. This year he competed as a
soloist in the USA where the judges are quoted as saying “you have it all
man!!!!”

Shawna Perry –
singing, acting and dancing in Musical Theatre. “Walks the talk” with choreographing
her own yearly Christmas show and performs in other choreographer’s work!  Shawna loves passing her joy to the students,
whom always seem to respond with an exchange of inspiration!

Rachelle Graham –
Bollywood, hip hop, jazz, modern, contemporary, lyrical, indo-jazz. “Walks the
talk” performing in music videos, shows, and has traveled the globe to work
with other choreographers!  Rachelle
wishes to inspire young dancers and to teach them that anything is possible!

Sarah Moore – tap,
lyrical, contemporary/modern, stage, jazz, Al Gilbert Syllabus for tap and jazz,
Stretch and Strength. Sarah “walks the talk” after extensively dancing in Asia
to return to Canada to continue performing! She studies as Simon Fraser
University, and Sarah has already achieved her BFA in contemporary dance from
SFU. 

Kyle Vicente –
hip-hop, locking, popping, krumping, old school, house & stage, jazz.  Kyle is part of “OTI (Over the Influence),
The Faculty crew and more!  He “walks the
talk” by travelling to work with other choreographers and brings back his
experiences to share with his students. 
Kyle’s desire is to motivate and inspire others to better themselves in
their artistic fields & to see the passion that people put into their own
creative interpretation.

Lauren Chen – Ballet
is her perfection!  Lauren achieved a 5
year scholarship from GOH Ballet.  As a
young dancer she worked with the masters and was recruited by one of the top
ballet troupes in China.  “Walks the
talk” with her students as she leads them in ballet!

Jennifer Beaverstock –
Tahitian, kahiko, hula, Hawaiian. 
Jennifer has dedicated her life to learning the art of hula and “walks
the talk” with her students as young as 3 years!

Danielle DeMi – ballet & modern.  Danielle been in film and print since the age
of 9 months!  Just returned from Princess
Cruise Lines and travelling the world Danielle “walks the talk” by sharing her
“all” of film, acting, dancing and is still going strong!!

Casey Harrison – our
youngest hip-hop instructor is a seasoned performer.  Casey “walks the talk” in music videos,
competing, performing, continuous dance workshops and has a scholarship for the
Drive Dance Centre.

Barbara Tutt – tap,
jazz, musical theatre, acrobatics, lyrical, Al Gilbert technique syllabus for
tap and jazz.  Barbara “walks the talk”
with the Tap Stew group and is continually performing and working with other
choreographers. “To dance is to feel from the inside.” Barbara helps dancers
explore and press beyond their boundaries to find their creative soul that
waits to be expressed. Her work is “180 degree’s from ordinary!”

Angela Amici – latin
and salsa.  Angela “walks the talk”
between USA and Canada with her choreographer, performances in Music videos. Choreographer
for the Dance Diva’s group!   

Amanda Shatzko –
acrobatics.  Amanda still “walks the
talk” performing at corporate events, international stages, live performances
for 100,000 people, and can be seen in television shows, music videos, movies,
magazines, catalogues and runways  She
strives to entertain and inspire others..
