He has shared the stage with many well-known artists including Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Tantric, Candlebox, Shinedown, and The Toadies, among others.

Jeremy received formal music training at Douglas College in saxophone performance and continues to share his passion for learning music with his students. He is a versatile musician who plays various instruments including bass, guitar, saxophone, violin, and keyboard. He can be seen and heard regularly at many venues throughout the city playing with the John Scott Band, one of Vancouver’s most prominent three-piece cover bands.

JOHN SCOTT

Born in Vancouver, John Scott started on piano at the age of 9.  Soon after, he started learning flute and saxophone.  At the age of fifteen, John began playing bass guitar in rock projects and soon after picked up guitar as well.  By the time John was sixteen, he had performed in a minor Symphonic Orchestra and won many awards for flute.  John was also performing saxophone in a few Jazz bands and then guitar and bass in numerous projects.  At 17, the rock scene had captured his interest. In the early 90’s he was a “hired gun” on guitar with a Joe Satriani tribute on the side and has been on stage with some of Canada’s best including players from Mathew Good Band, Colin James Band, Larry Gowan, Jeff Healey Band, Trooper, Prism, B.B. King, and many more.

John Scott also has performed at the Commonwealth Games, for the Lieutenant Governor of Canada, and for Premier Harcourt as a vocalist in a 22-piece Big Band Show Band called the “Swiftsure Big Band” in Victoria. In the late 90’s he started the semi-progressive cover band “John Scott Band”, one of the freshest sounding three-piece bands ever. His uniquely diverse and powerful vocals have sent them to the top of the Vancouver cover scene. During 2002-2004 he had sold over 1100 of his self titled CD demo “John Scott- troubled life”.  His aspirations are now taking him to new levels with over 200 original songs and a CD in the works.

On a personal note, John’s motto is “If you don’t learn, you don’t grow.”  This shows in his music, his bands, and in his passion of teaching music to people of all ages.

EMILY BOLHUIS

Emily hails from Mineville, Nova Scotia, where she began her musical endeavors at the age of four, singing in her church choir. Hearing beautiful accompaniments at church inspired her to beg her mother for piano piano lessons, which she started at the age of nine (Thanks Mom!). Singing, playing the piano and even a little trombone and French horn in high school, led her to a Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice Performance from Dalhousie University (Halifax), where she sudied with Dr. Gregory Servant. In her last year at Dalhousie, she taught piano lessons as part of the after school program for Bedford Elementary Academy. Emily caught the opera bug and flew to Toronto to do the Artist Diploma in Voice performance at the University of Toronto, where she studied with Jean MacPhail. While in Toronto, Emily taught Voice and Piano for 2 and 1/2 years at Lippert Music Centre Inc., and also taught for their Musical Theatre camp for 2 summers. Emily has a wealth of Opera Chorus experience, singing Chorus parts for Dialogues of the Carmelites (Dalhousie), Riders to the Sea (Dalhousie), Suor Angelica (Dalhousie) Le Nozze di Figaro (Toronto) The Merry Wives of Windsor (Toronto) to name a few. At Dalhousie, Emily also performed the roles of ‘Nora’ in Riders to the Sea and ‘Miss Singspiel’ in The Impresario (Mozart). In Toronto, Emily sang for Soundstreams Canada in “Drumming” for world-renowned minimalist composer Steve Reich. She has performed in Masterclasses for Wendy Nielsen, Tom Diamond, Marcia Swanston, and Adrienne Pieczonka. She has been a Soprano soloist/section leader for First Baptist Church (Halifax) and Willowdale Presbyterian Church (North York). Upon graduation from the University of Toronto in 2007, Emily taught Voice and Piano lessons for Cornerstone Music in Calgary. Now settled in Burnaby (and she does mean settled - no more moving!), Emily hopes to continue her teaching and performance journey. For Emily, teaching and performing have enriched her personally and musically and she hopes to inspire all of her students to experience the joy of learning Music.
